Brood War Heroes by xiaorobear Brood War Heroes by xiaorobear
As usual, gotta download that full size view. :)

So, when I was originally drawing the Starcraft to Scale chart xiaorobear.deviantart.com/art/…, the main purpose was to document the different sizes of different units. After having a Dark Templar in there, there was no need to draw Zeratul. But, of course, drawing classic heroes like Fenix does give me an excuse to shoehorn in some of those classic SC1 designs. So, here are sketches of all of the hero characters from SC1/Brood War, minus the Cerebrates and the Overmind (because they're too big, I won't be drawing them at this resolution), and Artanis (because I'm waiting for his full Legacy of the Void design to be released).

Notes:
-In SC1, Protoss were described as 3 meters tall. In Starcraft 2, Zeratul (and Lasarra) is considerably shorter. I imagine it's just a subtle retcon so that the Protoss characters can interact more naturally on screen with everyone else, so I fully expect Selendis and Artanis to show up in the next expansion at something like 2.2m, but for now I'm trying to bridge the gap between 3m tall zealots and hunched-over dark templar.
-"Classic" Kerrigan is based on Chris Metzen's old concept art for her, and a bit of Samwise Didear's ghost concept.
-The UED captain is the unseen character you play as in the Brood War terran campaign
-The Colonial Magistrate is the unseen character you play as in the SC1 terran campaign
-Aside from her head, Raszagal is basically a non-canon design. There exists a piece of SC2 concept art where she just looks like a 3/4ths scale version of Zeratul that I might follow instead.
-Selendis is in there because, supposedly, she is the unseen player character in the Brood War protoss campaign, as Artanis was for SC1.
-Tassadar's design is strongly influenced by his upcoming Heroes of the Storm appearance, but with shoulder bands and his original head.
-Fenix's dragoon is based on the SC1 design, but the main chart still has the larger SCGhost/SC2-immortal-looking one, don't worry.

Can you do one of these for the infantry units, so that we can get a better look at the  Marines, Ghosts ext.

I don't think I will, just because once I realized how tiny the infantry units would be on the chart I started churning out drawings where the detail just isn't there. So, even if I might have the scans at high enough resolution, only about half of them are worth seeing (the Probe, for example, looks a lot better smaller, trust me). There are some that are decent enough, like the Vulture, but the overall quality would be too inconsistent for an image like this. Sorry!

Good job, but the SC1 magistrate is obviusly Matt Horner, we have a lot of proof about it in games, Duke I think use a uniform, not a marine suit in SC1, in the portrait you can see some star-badges and look different from a marine suit, and miss some heroes:
*Artanis
*Infested Stukov
*Zasz
*Daggoth
*Overmind
*Second Overmind

I suggest to add to Raszagal a scarf like Zeratul/dark templars and to remove the non-canon Kerrigan (because officially she with there suit and hair is not canon in recent works)

Hey, thanks for the comment!

I think Horner can't have been the SC1 magistrate because his official history on the SC2 site contradicts it. It says Horner was initially recruited into the Sons of Korhal by a trader, and was the first officer on a smuggling ship that helped in the evacuation of Mar Sara— the magistrate, on the other hand, didn't desert the confederacy until after Mar Sara.

I will be including Artanis and Infested Stukov along with the next update to the main chart (I want to wait to see Artanis' appearance in LotV), as well as a generic cerebrate (don't really feel like drawing more than one, heh), and the first overmind.

(As for Raszagal, her face is meant to be covered, just with the cloth tightly wrapped around her chin, but I guess that wasn't clear in my drawing!)

I think for helped the evacuation the story means about the mission "Desperate Alliance" and he can be officier of a ship even in SC1, in the book Flashpoint in the Raynor's flashback Horner gave orders in the missions like the magistrate in SC1, and the fact about Raynor don't know is name can be explain because before join to SoK he ever celled him "Magistrate" and for this he never know is true name. But I will happy to see the upadated version :) do you think do put the SC2 characters too in future? Like Horner, Swann, Abathur, Izsha, Zagara ec...?

Ah, I hadn't actually read Flashpoint! Very interesting. Also fits with them not really mentioning the Magistrate character in Liberty's Crusade.
I'm on the fence about how many SC2 characters to put in. I definitely want to include ones like Abathur, but I don't really care about characters like Hill or Stettman, and I don't want to draw Zurvan. We'll see, I'll probably focus on the main LotV chart before going in and drawing Swann and Narud, just as I did these heroes after the HotS chart.

Kerrigan appears to be Zeratul's size in the cinematic and appears to stand as tall as Jim in full armor; I always thought they were very careful about how they shot both of them in HoTS so that it was never explicit that she was significantly larger than him XD"

Hah, I would say there was a height difference between  her and Raynor in his armor, but, yeah, Zeratul was just tiny. I think another thing that made it weird is that Raynor's proportions are kind of leaning toward the Warcraft end of things, with a small head and massive arms, so they look a little weird together.
